fuel fill cap spare o-ring not fit

Ask around locally with mechanics, oil industry, or others. I googled “O” rings and Vancouver or Richmond and Fluidseal came up. I am sure there are others. I’m sure that any big US city will have some similar business. I see that Greenline Hose also stocks seals. Seals are a pretty important...

    Sonar Image

Pretty cool! Those imaging sonars used to be $100k US. We used a DIDSON system beginning around 2006, I believe, for salmon management. Game changer. Jim

fuel fill cap spare o-ring not fit

I go to a place called “Fluidseal”. They have EVERYTHING. I bring in a sample and they put callipers on it and measure it every which way but Sunday. I change my filler cap “O” rings nearly every year and I have two sizes. I bought about 20 total for $20. Sometimes when I go to Fluidseal they...

    Battery charger always on?

Rod does. That’s for sure. He may have a breaker after the solar controller. That’s what I have. But the protection is for the short from the battery bank, not the output from the controller end. Jim

    Battery charger always on?

Thanks Steve. Yes, I knew that the photo came from Rod’s “Marine How To” site, which has been an excellent resource. I just don’t think those conductors have overcurrent protection. Jim

    Battery charger always on?

The photo in post #76 shows a smaller sized wire on the upper left [edit], destination unknown, that would seem to me to have no overcurrent protection. What am I missing here? Edit: actually, there are two wires there. Jim

Secondary filter housing on Lehmann weeping diesel at bleed bolt.

Here’s the update. I took the unit off and after conferring with my machinist friends, the bleed bolt hole is certainly stripped. I guess stainless on Aluminum over 39 years, I should not be surprised. The good news is, American Diesel has nearly identical units for $200 USD. Shipped to Point...

Secondary filter housing on Lehmann weeping diesel at bleed bolt.

Yes. I have found the copper crush washer, and no, I have not replaced that. I’ll give that a go. I will try and source some locally here. Jim

Secondary filter housing on Lehmann weeping diesel at bleed bolt.

I seem to recall others have had this issue. The secondary filter housing on Lehmann I beginning to weep diesel at the bleed bolt. I believe the housing is aluminum and the bleed bolt is stainless so I suspect that it is beginning to be stripped. The setup is nearly 40 years old now. So I see...

    Ethanol Free gasoline, British Columbia

Thanks RS. I have just installed the filter in the attached photo, based on a recommendation for same on TF. I also use the Mercury fuel stabilizers, short term and longer term. I have also drained the tanks/jerry cans at the end of the season, and rinsed and dried them out with 99% isopropyl...

    Ethanol Free gasoline, British Columbia

I was told several years ago at the Steveston fuel barge that it was ethanol free and that was the general information I heard around the dock. However, I walked with a charter boat operator in Winter Harbour and he said there were water in fuel issues at that were reported to be at point of...

    Ethanol Free gasoline, British Columbia

I am hearing rumours that marine gasoline in BC is no longer ethanol free. I had assumed that the Parkland fuel dock still sold ethanol free fuel but the young attendant said no, but he didn’t know for sure. It was over $2.20/litre, which is a premium over what is for sale at land-based gas...

    Gardner Canal

I hope that my cruising plans include Gardner Canal this year. “MurrayM ” used to spend time there, but I don’t think he frequents the forum anymore. If anyone has experience there, please share. Jim

Fuel pickup tube Mercury Quick Silver 25 litre tank

I’m not sure exactly where this thread belongs and I’ve put it here. The fuel pickup tube Mercury Quick Silver 25 litre tank has become brittle and snapped quite easily on inspection. Also the copper wire on the float is somehow corroded. I have searched the web for a replacement tube and have...

Removal of Sand/Epoxy finish on foredeck.

I’ve looked into awlgrip and it looks quite technical too. A lot of sanding with very fine grit paper. I may have to look into an easier topcoat for those channels. Jim

Removal of Sand/Epoxy finish on foredeck.

It’s finally almost finished! Three coats 2-part epoxy primer. Kiwi Grip on today. It looks really sharp! I think I will use Awl Craft in the channels. Anyone with experience with this product? Suggestions, advice most welcome.

Mixing proportions of Interlux 2-part Epoxy Primekote by weight?

Thanks Ken. For sure, you cannot use the same 3:1 proportions by volume to weight in grams. I measured amounts by volume of the two components, using the indicated volumes on each of the two tins. Part A is 0.71 litres and Part B is 0.24 litres for a total of 0.95 litres (1 US quart) These...

Mixing proportions of Interlux 2-part Epoxy Primekote by weight?

I finally got through to Interlux. Unfortunately he could not, or would not answer my question. “We do not recommend mixing by weight as the mixing proportions would be off.” GRRRR! I guess I will have to do the calculations myself! The problem is, the main component is not pourable. I guess...
