    Stop Anchor

I am curious as to how many folks are ready to stop their boats using an anchor. And if that is via an anchor on the bow or stern... I've never dropped my primary anchor in an emergency though my cockpit Stop anchor did save me once. Of late I have not seen stern anchors on vessels however to...

    Stop Anchor

In reading the What Would You Have Done? thread "What would you have done?" deploying an anchor was mentioned. I wondered how many have anchors ready to drop. Do you have more than one? Do you have an anchor at your transom in addition to the one (or two) forward? Windlasses? Thanks.

    Attempted Piracy?

Thank you for the report. Your actions were decisive and correct. Shutting down your AIS transmitter was Excellent. Putting them between you and the setting sun was brilliant too. Congratulations on your smart moves which kept you both safe. Some things don't change. We were shot at north of...

    Chain life in fresh water

Years ago I tried regalvanizing with a group of friends using a commercial place. I will not do that again! The galvanizing company apparently did not tumble enough after dipping, AND the fellow who picked up didn't check so... A few years later I was due for more chain. Because the bitter end...

When it is time to cut the anchor chain

As mentioned previously do make sure your float is buoyant enough to float the chain. Mine was, BUT the current was so strong both fender and chain were only visible at slack tide.

Thought I'd better join, just bought a project

I love that your engine is white. Please stick with that. Short story: I had my Kubota repainted white. While cruising along I noted a minor spot of pink coolant. Had my engine been any other color I doubt I would have seen it. I am a huge advocate for white machinery. Good luck with...

79 Outer Reef 26 project update

Holly Lynn is looking great. I love the progress you have made. Quite frankly this past year-plus has entailed system upgrades and replacements for me on my 1983 Schucker miniature trawler. Pre-purchase a friend did a quick survey for me on an outer reef down in southwest Florida. They are...

    Florida Keys marinas.

I loved the restaurant at Faro Blanco... and the swimming pool too. Way back when there were loads of cottages available for out-of-town visitors between the marina and the Overseas Highway. Enjoy your time there.

Spare Ultra 27Kg Anchor: Keep or Sell

Keep the anchor. Have it ready-to-deploy in an emergency situation. Here's why: When I was going down a river with a ripping current my engine cut out on me due to dirty fuel. There was literally not time to drop the main anchor because I was so close to a turn in the river. Fortunately I was...

    Aging

I believed the term meant the travesty of moving off the boat, at least that's what it meant a half century ago. Has the meaning changed? Eek! My friend Rich is alive and kicking (cataract surgery just last month)

Slow Hand – End of the line

Great to know the best days. I do prefer weekdays so Monday, Wednesday and Thursday are perfect. With these winds and the holiday weekend, I will not venture onto the G-ICW as initially considered earlier this week. These weather temperatures are perfection. I truly prefer overcast days such as...

Slow Hand – End of the line

Nearby... was just speaking tonight and IF the wind drops the plan is to take Seaweed over to the American Legion or the Elks club for a cup of sangria over ice. I will be back at the dock long before dark as the idiots come out in droves on holiday weekends. I'm sure you know that the first...

    Aging

This!!! I have pictured your gents as 50s or possibly a few a bit older. It is fabulous to realize (appreciate) how much life experience is freely shared here on TrawlerForum. I am grateful. B and B were young however I've not seen them of late. My friend Rich swallowed the anchor recently...

    Stretching the buying budget

The missing features you desire cannot be rectified at your price point currently. In my opinion (because you are a boater, understand the complexities, maintenance expenses) I would consider spending the money to get what makes your heart sing. Example: a guy I know LOVED an aft deck. He...

    5-mos Cruising Pacific Mexico Q&A

Thanks for a great report and your insight. Both ring true to our experiences 50 to 60 years ago. The east coast was remote with little (to my memories) "civilization" which was just what we preferred. We only made it to Venezuela, then hopped along the coast before crossing over to Cuba...
