Supreme Court Upholds Back-Door Denials of Boat Insurance Claims

From the earlier post: The problem is not that a claim was denied because of a fire and the boats fire fighting systems were not in working order, it is because the claim for a collision and grounding was denied which had nothing to do with the state of the fire system. Denying a claim like...

    Real Estate funding your cruising?

I have "known" a guy on the Internet for close to 25 years. He owns a bunch of single family homes in California and the stories he, and others, have told over the years regarding tenants has kept me out of residential investments. What has really made being a landlord even more difficult, is...

    Aging

I would suggest getting a step counter/fitness monitor/Fitbit to track how much walking you do. I have been using a Fitbit for years and tracking how many steps I do, active minutes, miles walks, stairs climbed, BPM, etc has been helpful. My goal is to walk at least 10,000 steps a day, and I...

Morgan's Cloud published another article on Wakespeed and ARCO.

    Arco Zeus External Regulators

Morgan's Cloud is writing up a comparison of Arco and Wakespeed. Might want to subscribe to the website to see what they write up. Wakespeed WS 500 or ARCO Zeus or… is the link to where they say they are doing a comparison.

    Autonomous marine travel

With AIS and radar integration into chart plotters, controling the auto pilot, there really is only a few more pieces needed to have The System change course as needed to avoid other vessels or shallow water. Hopefully, one did not set a course into the hard bits but we know that happens. What...

    Key Bridge in Baltimore collapsed

A year or so ago, I saw a video from a ship's engineer that talked about the ships engine. Starting was done from compressed air. There is no transmission and to go from forward to reverse, the engine, and thus prop shaft and prop, had to be stopped. Then the engine was started in reverse...

    Key Bridge in Baltimore collapsed

Yep, that is why I mentioned the Tampa Bay Bridge. The structures around the Tampa Bay Bridge would make it very difficult for a ship to drop the bridge. Though, after watching the video of the ship taking out the cranes in a port, I wonder if the Tampa Bay protective structures are far enough...

    Key Bridge in Baltimore collapsed

Can't post the image I want... Hopefully this will work. There are many protective structures on the Tampa Bay bridge. https://www.google.com/maps/search/tampa+bay+bridge+map/@27.6206137,-82.6575106,771m/data=!3m1!1e3?entry=ttu

    Key Bridge in Baltimore collapsed

One can see the lights go out, then on, then out again, and during the power flickering, one could see a huge amount of black smoke. I also noticed the slow turn to starboard along with the vehicles on the bridge and wondered about prop walk. The ship is supposed to have dropped anchor as...

    Autonomous marine travel

I can see automation being able to cross large bodies of water are well surveyed coastal areas and rivers easily. However, I know areas where the inlet is constantly changing and the chart is questionable. One has to look at the buoys AND read the water. There can be very little space...

    Lithium Ion Tool Battery Fires

Yep, I would guess many users pop the battery in the charger when the battery is warm. In my case, I drilled 3-4 holes in thin plastic before putting the battery back in the charger. The battery was not warm at all but it still shorted out for some reason.

    Lithium Ion Tool Battery Fires

A Dewalt tool battery did almost catch fire and burn down my house as I posted above. Afterwards, I went for years without using battery powered tool but then I had to buy one. The batteries get charged where if they do catch fire, it won't cause property damage. Had to buy some replacement...

Slow Hand – End of the line

Open hatches that can slam/slide shut on fingers are also a risk.

Slow Hand – End of the line

Excellent advice about the hatches. Sometimes when doing a chore, one has the choice of trying to do something fast to save time or take a short period of time to remove/minimize one's chance to get injured. I have been really good at looking at a situation, seeing the possible problem that...
